Welcome to the Scottish-Mining website. These pages were designed to provide an online resource for those researching Scottish mining ancestors, to share information and stories.

My personal interests in both the Mining and Iron industries developed from my family history research as I discovered that a large number of my male ancestors had been miners or ironworkers. As a wee boy I saw the closure of the last pit in Blantyre, a town which owed its existence to the mining industry and the miners.

If you'd like to contribute to the website please send any information, suggestions or anything else you'd like to share. All contributions will be given full acknowledgment of course. Please read the FAQ page to find the answers to questions you might have about researching your mining ancestors.

NEW-- Andy Paterson's book "A Blast From The Past" is now on sale. An essential read for anybody from Blantyre, or who's ancestors lived in the town, and an excellent resource for anyone with mining ancestors.
